PATCHWORK WORKSHOP JANUARY 2009

On Saturday, 17th January 23 ladies arrived bright and early to begin Ruth Wagner's Workshop at Coolwaters Holiday Village, Kinka Beach (just south of Yeppoon). Members came from far and wide including Amby, surrounding areas of Rockhampton and Brisbane. The Workshop titled "Introduction to Hand-dyed Fabric Contemporary Piecing" was a follow up from a previous workshop held in the same venue twelve months previously by Ruth when she taught Fabric Dyeing. Most had their hand dyed fabrics, batik collections and some commercial prints to learn about blending colours and explore new contemporary techniques of quiltmaking. Four sessions covered separate techniques - 1. Strip Piecing 2. Foundation Piecing/Curved Piecing 3. Curved Piecing/Applique 4. Improvisational Piecing. Thank you Ruth for a wonderful stimulating weekend. The above quilt was a Convergence quilt made by Ruth.
Scrappy Curve Log Cabin with Improvisational Piecing. Note the different colour strip in each block to add extra interest. Many made this runner, some finished up like a drunken track.

This sample shows curved piecing with the dyed fabric. The effect is striking.

Another of Ruth's samples showing how dyed fabrics can be used to make a beautiful quilt.

The above 2 samples are Curved piecing using the dyed fabrics

This technique of blending colours with the dyed fabrics was the one I personally enjoyed the most.

This Scrappy Curved Log Cabin was very popular and everyone had a lot of fun with the technique. Improvisational Piecing

The above works are some of the members Strip piecing , insertion. Some combined commercial fabrics with their dyed fabrics with superb results. Mostly runners and toppers were made.

The Group at the end of the second day with some of their results. Everyone throughly enjoyed the two days workshop and are looking forward to next years.

The above 3 photos are 'Show & Tell' after the workshop. Two are Convergence quilts and one a Country Quilt all made by our Chairman.

Christmas 2008

The above hanging was part of Show and Tell at 2008 Christmas Luncheon

The above photos were some of the Christmas Decorations that one of our Moggill members decorates her home each December. She has been collecting beautiful Christmas decorations from all over the world for many years and makes several new Christmas Quilts or Wallhanging each year. The Moggill Piecemakers and Craft Group have a combined Christmas Breakup Luncheon and admire the lights and decorations each year. The house and decorations are a credit to you Christine.
